$18.00 $17.00

Turkish Coffee, or more accurately, Arabic Coffee (the Greeks call it elliniko), is a style of coffee that originated in Yemen and is somewhat similar to an espresso, except thicker, more velvety, and is often served with a thin layer of foam on top.  The coffee beans themselves, however, were originally discovered and are still naturally grown in Ethiopia.  Important things to know about this coffee you’re about to purchase:

  • From Ethiopia Sidamo coffee, grown in the Sidamo province of Ethiopia (considered the birthplace of all coffee) is a 100% Arabica bean variety.
  • Certified Fair Trade and Organic.
  • It is roasted, ground, and packaged in California.
  • We keep a small inventory, freshly packaged for The Mediterranean Dish.

Product Description

How to Make Turkish Coffee (Arabic Coffee):

To make 2 3-oz cups of coffee, here is what you need:

  • 6 ounces water (distilled, if possible)
  • 4 teaspoons Turkish coffee
  • Sugar, optional

  1. In a Turkish coffee pot (cezve), put the water, coffee, and if using, the sugar (you can add ½ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of sugar, if you like your coffee a bit sweeter). Using a spoon, stir briefly to combine.
  2. Put the pot on low heat and watch closely for it to slowly boil (it will take 3 to 4 minutes or so). A dark foam will build up at the top as the coffee heats up.
  3. When the coffee is about to boil and starts to rise, immediately remove the pot from the heat (do not allow it to overflow).
  4. As the coffee warms, you will see a dark foam building up (that’s good!) Closer to it coming to a boil, using a teaspoon, transfer some of the foam into each of your two coffee cups.
  5. Return the pot to the stovetop and boil the remaining coffee for an additional 15 seconds, watching carefully. Pour the rest of the coffee in the cups to the rim.  Enjoy!
