    Za'atar Spice Blend

    I love it

All spices that I have purchased from The Mediterranean Dish and all olive oil from her store has been EXCEPTIONAL. I’ve just started Mediterranean-style cooking within this past month. I bought her cookbook, beginning spices and the olive oil to begin with, although I was skeptical that olive oil would be much different. It is!!! I also subscribed for delivery every 90 days, and that needs to be edited to every 30 days.
What I’ve found is that Suzy’s cookbook is authentic. Other Mediterranean diet cookbooks do not give much, if any, special spices. It makes all the difference. Also, I get Suzy’s recipes on-line and last night made scallop pasta. It was fantastic.
We are not trying to loose weight at our house. I’m working on healthier cholesterol without using statin drugs and we believe this is a healthier way to enjoy awesome meals. In addition, I’ve started a rigorous exercise program. Will know more in 3 months. And I’ll let you know how it’s going.
If you are serious about the Mediterranean style of cooking, this is the place for you to begin. I don’t ever want to turn back!

    I love this Blend together.
Was great as a rub on my grilled salmon

I like it for some uses but not for others.

Interestingly, I prefer this blend (which is made with wild thyme) sprinkled on bread brushed with EVOO and then toasted in the oven and in hot food like soups. I do not, however, like it as much as a za'atar made with hyssop mixed into my labneh. For my taste buds this za'atar unheated tastes a bit like the za'atar is moldy. So I Recommend this za'atar for heating but not particularly use raw. That said, I am sure it's just a matter of personal taste and others may much prefer it raw as well.

Hi Rowen! Thanks for your honest 3-star review and we appreciate all kinds of feedback. I wanted to be sure to clarify so that others don't make the mistake thinking this za'atar is best used only on hot foods. As you correctly pointed out, it really depends on the person's taste. And I love that you find creative ways to use za'atar, as it is highly versatile! We here at TMD use this za'atar unheated and heated and we enjoy it both ways equally. Some of us consume it daily as a snack, dipping pita bread in olive oil. Others sprinkle it in their salads or over a plate of hummus. I personally like to sprinkle it on top of some scrambled eggs. As you can see there are many uses, and though all the different uses may not please everyone's palate equally, most people will find some way that works best for them. Enjoy!
